myBBsum is a script that fetch information from phpBB database & displays most recent & most viewed posts

Please follow the installation instruction careful

1) Unzip forumsum into your hard drive
2) Edit the forumsum.php & change the following

$table_prefix = "phpBB prefix table assigned by user" ; //
$phpbb_root_path = './forums/'; // installed path to phpBB

if you dont know please log into your adminstrator's panel ( configuration ) &

3) Upload forumsum.php into your root directory of web server.
4) Create a directory "images" at your root directory of your web server
5) Upload the images files into your images directory.
6) Determine what style you are using on your phpBB forum
in this case I assumed it's subSilver
7) Upload the forum.tpl file into your phpBB subSilver directory

To display it
<? include "forumsum.php" ?>
location is pending on where you want it to be at !

Hmm,

That error tells us that the script unable to locate the forumsum.tpl.

It's either you upload the forumsum.tpl into a wrong directory or forget to upload it.

1st , please make sure you know what phpBB style ( template or skin ) you are using .

if you dont know, then upload it to every single style you have

eg:
If you are using subSilver & your phpBB is installed at ./forums directory

you should upload the forumsum.tpl into
./forums/templates/subSilver/

if you are using some others style that upload in to
./forums/templates/otherstyle/

Please try it out again and get back to me Wink

thanks

Is it possible to configure this to only pull new posts from *specific* forums?

Thanks in advance,
Amanda

Yup, you can do it with some minor modification in the SQL statement

eg:

$sqlforum = "SELECT
".$table_prefix."topics.topic_title,
".$table_prefix."forums.forum_name,
".$table_prefix."users.username,
".$table_prefix."topics.topic_id
FROM ".$table_prefix."forums, ".$table_prefix."posts, ".$table_prefix."users, ".$table_prefix."topics, ".$table_prefix."posts_text
where
".$table_prefix."posts.post_id = ".$table_prefix."posts_text.post_id
and ".$table_prefix."topics.topic_id = ".$table_prefix."posts.topic_id
and ".$table_prefix."forums.forum_id = ".$table_prefix."posts.forum_id
and ".$table_prefix."users.user_id = ".$table_prefix."posts.poster_id
ORDER BY ".$table_prefix."posts_text.post_id
desc LIMIT 0, 6";

Add this before ORDER BY

and ".$table_prefix."forums.forum_id ='1'
if you want to pull recent topic posted for forum id = 1
if you dont know what is the forum id, go to your forum & move your mouse on the forum link to check what is the forum id.

Is it it possible to make this work on a .html page? I got it to work no problem on .php but I can't get it to work on .html. I'm wanting to run it on some established pages I have.

You are parsing information from php, you can't have a .html doing that, that's why you have the backend .php. If you put an IFRAME on the page and the source as the .php page, yeah. But other wise, no.

I've got a fix if anyone needs it. This script assumes that you are pulling it from a folder called forums, but I was pulling my phpbb root path from test/phpBB2/ not forums/ and it was giving me errors on my links.

I was able to pull the information from the db, but the links were incorrect. To fix this, there are two places to change. Search for U_TOPIC_ID and in () you should have forums/viewtopic.php? and some other things, change forums/ to where ever your forums are located off of your root.

Yes you can,

Do you have know php ?

first you have to know what is the "forum id" for the two forum you mention.

Then change the sql string to

$sqlforum = "SELECT
".$table_prefix."topics.topic_title,
".$table_prefix."forums.forum_name,
".$table_prefix."users.username,
".$table_prefix."topics.topic_id
FROM ".$table_prefix."forums, ".$table_prefix."posts, ".$table_prefix."users, ".$table_prefix."topics, ".$table_prefix."posts_text
where
".$table_prefix."posts.post_id = ".$table_prefix."posts_text.post_id
and ".$table_prefix."topics.topic_id = ".$table_prefix."posts.topic_id
and ".$table_prefix."forums.forum_id = ".$table_prefix."posts.forum_id
and ".$table_prefix."users.user_id = ".$table_prefix."posts.poster_id
ORDER BY ".$table_prefix."posts_text.post_id
desc LIMIT 0, 6";

add before the ORDER BY ".$table_prefix."posts_text.post_id --->

this line

and ".$table_prefix."forums.forum_id = X
and ".$table_prefix."forums.forum_id = Y

where X & Y is your forum id for those 2 you mentioned

How do you know what forum id ?/\.....
Hover over the forum & looking at the link URL & find for f=X

eg http://mywebland.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=13

f=13 is for myBBsum's forum id

Ok got it working buttt.
It shows private forums also.
Example I have a forum that set to be seen only by admins and moderators.
Is there a way to keep it from showing post in that forum?

Thanks

Ok no answer.

Ok I guess I can live with it like that because people can't read the private setion anyway without being an admin or moderator.

But I have another question.
Lets see if anyone can help with this one.

I want to make the topics show up nerrower on my page.
This is a test page before I added the code to call your script.
http://nucsa.org/test.php

But after I add the code every thing is apread out like this lonk.
http://nucsa.org/test2.php
