I dont have the same problem. It's diferent for me to tell as I need to know your server configuration & other things.

I can restrict the comment registered user. But if you open up to everybody to comment & dont allow spam first we must know what to allow & what are not.
How many spam you receive per day on comments?

I just have one person who posted an advertisement on plastic surgery on the forum. my board required registration via email activation yet this people still take the trouble to do that in order to spam. but that is still managable to me & I can delete it manually.

Sorry for my ignorance... but I am thinking...

All spam I get today have a "comment" as Standard i table comment_type.
Trackback is already disabble... it's possible to disable comment too?

Dorra

MSQ table:
comment_type enum('comment', 'linkback', 'trackback', 'pingback')

to ban a certain ip from commenting

a) In view.php, below this line

Code:
  if (isset($_POST["submit"])) {
//      echo "POST SUBMIT!!!"
     $user_ip = $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR'];  // Changes for 2.1.3  ( moved up )

Please insert

Code:
if  (isset($bannedIPs)){
  for($n=0;$n<count($bannedIPs);$n++) {
   if ($user_ip==$bannedIPs[$n]) {
   error($lang['Error'],"You are banned from commenting"); }
  }
}

b) setting.php , insert this to anyway.. last line will be a good place

Code:
 $bannedIPs = array(
'XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX',
'YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY',

);

Where
'XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX' = IP address of the banned visitor
IP address of the commenter can be view using phpmyadmin in the comments table.

if there is not IP registered in that table you can change the condition not to allow comment with IP address as well

eg: if ($user_ip==$bannedIPs[$n]) {
change to
if ($user_ip==$bannedIPs[$n] || $user_ip=="" || !isset($user_ip)) {

It's also when You want to post a comment:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '{' in /customers/hundfysik.se/hundfysik.se/httpd.www/mybloggie/view.php on line 90

Line 90 is in my file the first line of this added code.
